The First Technical Conference of the Association of Tax Authorities of Islamic Countries (ATAIC) was held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, from 4 to 7 October 2004. At that time, the association had sixteen member Islamic countries, eleven of which participated in this inaugural conference. The discussion topics included: Taxpayer services – improving tax administration towards providing better services for taxpayers. The role of Zakat in the development of the Islamic Ummah, and strategies for modernizing its collection and distribution.
